Sarah is a well-rounded individual who prides herself on quality and efficiency. She takes pride in how she shows up in her day-to-day life, whether with work, personal accomplishments, friends, or family.

Sarah has been a lifelong student. She has had an interest in many fields of study. She spent two years studying psychology, and two years studying environmental sciences at the Concordia University of Edmonton. To add to her education, she also completed her Global TESOL (Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages) 60 hr certificate.

Her most vast arena of work has been in the restaurant industry. She has learned many valuable skills over ten years in the industry that will be helpful in her public relations career. To name a few: consistent, detail-oriented, perform well during high-stress scenarios, and communicate with various clientele.

She has an appreciation for social and environmental responsibility. She has shown this through her volunteering experience at Takeaways Marketing Conference, ACT Alberta, Big Brothers Big Sisters, and Otra Ola (Spanish, Surf, and Yoga school).

Takeaways Marketing Conference was an event in that Sarah learned a lot. She was able to help host with a team of fellow students, introducing speakers and helping guide the presentation questions.

At ACT (Action Coalition on Human Trafficking) Alberta, she held Human Trafficking awareness booths, assisted in collecting donations for ACT, and educated others about ACT’s imprint in Albertans communities.

During her time with Big Brothers Big Sisters, she held the placement of a Big Sister. She mentored an 11-year-old girl for one year. She supported her in dealing with day-to-day life issues and provided companionship and support.

At Otra Ola, she focused on community building, beach clean-ups, and learning Spanish while teaching English.

Her passion for travel has taken her to Europe, Central America, and South America. She mostly spent the time backpacking, hiking, living within the cultures, diving into the aesthetics, and appreciating the surroundings. She enjoyed the artwork, textiles, and design diversity of each country she visited.

Sarah is keen on working in the fashion sector in the communications department. She has dreams of creating a clothing line, focusing on sustainable and socially responsible articles of clothing. She also would love to have a talk show, like Oprah her idol. Oprah and Sarah have the same Myers-Briggs personality trait and star sign. All things down the road, but she is ambitious and excited about her career in public relations that is right around the corner.

“My philosophy is that not only are you responsible for your life but doing
the best at this moment puts you in the best place for the next moment.”
Oprah Winfrey

Coming across Pounce Support Services™, Sarah was ecstatic about this opportunity because Kat is a kind-hearted and thoughtful leader. Without a doubt, Sarah knows this practicum placement will be an excellent foundation for her future career in communications.

“When I was five, my mother always told me happiness was the key to life.
When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up.
I wrote down “happy.” They told me I didn’t understand the assignment,
and I told them they didn’t understand life.”
John Lennon

Special thanks to Colin Babiuk, Public Relations Program Coordinator at MacEwan University, for the opportunity to host and help Sarah Birmingham earn her soon-to-be public relations educational designation.
