We Are Always Learning

From June 14 to 16, I had the opportunity to participate in person with more than 300 colleagues who attended the 28th National Canadian Association of Gift Planners (CAGP) Annual Conference on Strategic Philanthropy at the Halifax Marriott Harbourfront.

The three-day conference had plenty of exciting presenters, all experts in planned giving. My friend and colleague from Edmonton, Terry Tobin, was also one of these presenters.

I was pleased to meet a few keynote speakers, including David Chilton, author of the Wealthy Barber. You may know him from his time as a Dragon on the popular CBC show “The Dragon’s Den.”  I also met Mohamad Fakih, the CEO of Paramount Fine Foods. Both down-to-earth gentlemen shared their stories about being entrepreneurs and the importance of giving back to the community.

CAGP Membership
I am grateful and appreciate the gift from the CAGP Alberta North chapter for awarding me with the conference bursary this year. I hope to give back as a presenter in 2023.

Did You Know
According to Environics Analytics,

“Canada’s aging population and their net worth are projected to grow significantly over the next 10 years and the largest intergenerational transfer of wealth is expected to take place by means of inheritance. This inheritance value is expected to top $1 trillion by 20261. This is a significant moment in Canadian history and presents a substantial opportunity for not-for-profits to amplify the conversation about legacy gifts and how they can benefit Canadians today and in the future.”
