New Year, New Business Plans
By: Brianna MacLean
2023 has come and gone, and with the arrival of the new year has come the arrival of New Year’s resolutions! Now is the time to pick up a new hobby or form new daily habits to improve your health and overall lifestyle. Now is also the time for strategy, to re-evaluate your professional goals, and make plans to ensure success for you, your business, and your brand in the new year.
So, as put together your to-do list for 2024, here are five possible resolutions for you to include to help your business and your brand grow alongside you:
Identify your starting point:
Before you can run a race, you need to find your starting line! Take stock of your 2023 by identifying what worked well, what worked a little, and what didn’t work at all; this comprehensive overview will allow you to create a complete picture of the work you and your business have accomplished over the last year. Once you understand all the highs and the lows of your current business situation, you will have the foundation on which to build an improved communications strategy.
Set your 2024 objectives:
Now that you’ve finished the recap of 2023, it’s important to set SMART goals for your business going into 2024: Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound. By developing clear goals that you want your business to achieve in the new year, you are creating visible markers of success to focus on and work towards throughout the year.
Identify your target audience & channels of communication:
Understanding who your target audience is and where they consume marketing messages is critical in determining the most efficient communications strategy for your goals to build your brand further. Now is the time to review the results of your existing channels and consider adding something new for the new year. Whether through traditional methods such as print or digital advertisements, email distribution lists, or one of the many social media platforms available today, you have several opportunities to connect directly with your existing audience and potential new clients.
Remember to stay flexible:
Roger Crawford said it best: “Being challenged in life is inevitable; being defeated is optional.” No matter how carefully you strategize, it’s always important to remember that every single step might not go 100% according to plan. The ability to roll with the punches and adapt your goals is an invaluable skill to possess, and it will ultimately allow you to treat any challenge that stands in your way as an opportunity to grow and succeed.
Don’t be afraid to ask for help:
Everyone can use a helping hand from time to time; the ability to reach out and ask for help in achieving your goals is not an indicator of weakness but of an abundance of strength, humility, and self-awareness!
