IWARS – Rescue Stories
By: Kristen Haltermann

The lovely and sweet “Eloise” came into our care on April 1st, 2024, malnourished and non-weight-bearing on her back leg. We saw she had no family around to care for her and was limping, so we picked her up and brought her to our vet.

Her initial exam showed that she is around nine years old and severely underweight but otherwise was doing okay. Sadly, her x-rays also revealed that the suspected fracture in her leg was bone cancer.

Thankfully, her lungs were clear, which meant that the cancer had not spread, but we also found a bullet. This poor girl has gone through it all, yet continues smiling, giving kisses, and wagging her tail.

She is a champ.

On April 5th, 2024, she went into surgery to amputate her leg, remove the cancerous tissue, and, hopefully, give her a new lease on life! Her surgery was a success; now, it’s just the recovery she must conquer as a new tripod.

Eloise and all of us at IWARS are grateful for the support we have received from the public, which has allowed us to continue helping dogs like her!
