11 Years Without Jenny

Our beautiful niece died from suicide 11 years ago on August 13, 2012, and my family still aches for her presence.

At 32 years old we believed she had everything in life to look forward to. Some of her accomplishments included graduating from the U of A and working as a Lieutenant in the Canadian Forces.  Jenny had good friends and a family who loved her.

Jenny was adventurous and full of life. It is still very hard for some of our family to believe how she died but we must live with it. Even though I knew many of the signs, I did not see any of them with Jenny.  The guilt still weighs heavily on me today.  I have thoughts of how I could have, would have, and should have saved her.

Suicide is something that can be prevented.  If you or someone you love needs help, there are resources on the internet.  You may consider calling Talk Suicide Canada at 1.833.456.4566.

Suicide is one of the top ten causes of death in Canada and it has become a serious health problem.  We need to pay attention and be informed. So many of us have mental health issues.  Let’s commit to being more patient, kind, and understanding.
